Grade School Lunch.
Remember those days in grade school when your mother packed you a Chinese lunch? Rice, vegetables and something stinky (keeping in mind that anything foreign wins you title of "kid who brings stinky lunches"). So you would open your lunch box everyday praying to get something normal but usually just end up looking enviously at your best friend's Peanut Butter & Jelly?
Well i'm glad those days are over. I'll take stinky lunches anyday over PB & J...I love spices and fish and seafood.
Unfortunately my very authentically Canadian colleagues have issues with this. I now have a shortlist of controversial foods which do not adhere to cubicle laws of decency:
- eggs (even tiny diced up boiled eggs in salad)
- any type of seafood even tuna & salmon (so sardines and rice is definitely an UNACCEPTABLE lunch)
- garlic of any form (even in powder form to accompany vegetables)
- rice is also not appreciated (fried or plain white rice)
- brocoli is equally unappreciated
- dumplings/pot stickers
So to contradict Homer in the flying roast pig episode - you actually DO win friends with plain salads.
Anyways - after being outed as the stinky lunch girl, I reluctantly acquiese and bring just plain steamed bak choy. Unfortunately, still reminiscent of grade school, it just so happens that my tupperware exploded today and the watery vegetables have ruined my work bag.
