"I don't really know anything about popular music"
"Sure you do, anyone with instinct knows anything about popular music. That's why they call it popular music"
- conversation in film Laurel Canyon.
I would extend that logic to any form of music.
Music is instinct - it is an expression of emotion and passion even if it is formulaic and generic like that boy band stuff. It has the ability to make a connection with people.
I really am tired of the anti-pop culture/pop-music people. What makes Beethoven's creative process better than U2's, Simon and Garfunkle’s, and of course, Gotan Project's!? Yes, I agree that the output is different - another genre altogether. But this is the art of our age. If you turn your back on it, you turn your back to this generation.
