I am a fatty...

Over the years (yes, at 30 I feel like I have earned the right to use that type of terminology), I have been to many restaurants across Canada, the US, Asia, Europe, South-America. I realized the other day, that my favourite gastronomical experiences were shared with my husband. We are mayjah food and wine lovers.

These are my top 5 (+3) restos:
- Seafood bar, Barcelona market on Las Ramblas.
We loved this place so much, we went back a second time within a 3-day stay. A little bar/kiosk in the middle of the market in Barcelona, this busy seafood stand grills orders of selected fresh seafood to perfection. We sat on tall stools and drank cold cold beer while tasting mouth-watering razer clams, octopus, calamari, sardines. I still drool thinking about how enjoyable it was.

- Toque, Montreal
I love the taster menu at this establishment Montreal French restaurant. We had a 7 to 8 course meal where everything was magical. Every taste was memorable including the foam on top of the tomato amuse bouche soup. It was a blind taster menu - but I highly recommend since everything tastes amazing. Next time we return, I am doing the wine pairing!!

- Buchonné, Montreal
We love this teeny tiny restaurant. It fits a maximum of 30 people and it serves tapas style Quebecer cuisine. Fresh lovely quail deviled eggs, oysters, charcuterie, rack of lamb, YUMMY GOODNESS. The sommelier recommends excellent wine by the glass at a very reasonable price to go with each course or excellent bottles. We have done both and appreciate it.
They recently changed venues and we are excited to check it out this Saturday!!!

- Casa Tapas, Montreal
It rivals restos in Spain. We love the seafood tapas (cod, octopus, etc...) and the cheese and jamon plate. In its simplicity, it proves the high quality of this restaurant. Tasty and not over salted or spiced.

-BonTon, Langkawi
We also loved this spot so much, we went back a second time during a short stay to enjoy the Malaysian inspired Thai cuisine. It was an excellent combination of satay skewers, delicious fragrant rice, mouth-watering flavours. A nice twist on Thai food.

- Sushi Samba, Miami
We loved the Omakaze dinner (Japanese taster menu). PP prefers Nobu in NYC but I prefer Sushi Samba for the latin influence. I find Japanese food easily bastardized in North-America (Koreans, Vietnamese, Chinese, Quebecois all open their version of sushi restaurants. This (even though it is fusion) does it best! We had Kobe beef with Lamb, sushi, lobster, and I just enjoyed the mix of flavours and the presentation.

- Xiao nan guo, Shanghai
I selected this restaurant because it is the only restaurant name that I can recall in China. Many Cantonese restaurants in Guangzhou or Kaiping easily beat this spot but I needed a place to start my conversation on how much I love Chinese food. From the North - the amazing pull noodles, dumplings, cold entrees with preseved egg and tofu, onion pancakes, duck crepes, etc...
The south....the spicy, the pork, the many many ways we can make a meal with the entire animal kingdom present. I could live on Chinese food alone!

- Au pied de cochon, Montreal
Very tough call to include this as my last choice...I love the freshness and the down to earth style of this restaurant. It embodies the essence of Quebec French food. Un-snobby, quality local products/ingredients, fatty yumminess, creative, goes great with a lovely red wine.

These are the cuisines that I enjoy immensely but did not include on my list since I already went over my top 5 limit.
- portuguese
- italian
- greek
- lebanese

There are some other restos from Paris and New york that were beyond exceptional. But the aforementionned are the ones I went to with PP so it made the experiences more memorable :)

Bon appetit!
