Late again!

Today I was running about 15 minutes late to a dinner meeting with the bosses. argh - late again.

Out of nowhere this woman in crutches comes up to me and begs for my help. She wanted me to drive her to her home which was only 5 minutes away. Her handicap bus stood her up and she was on the corner for the past 2 hours asking for random strangers to help her.

I explained that I was really late and that I really couldn't drive her anywhere and suggested for her to call a cab. But then she explained that she had no cash on her and that the bank was too far for her to get there. She told me in desperation that she had arthritis.

Somewhere in the back of my mind I couldn't help but wonder if this was some sort of sick ploy, trickery, gimic to make money.

Anyways, I hailed a cab - promptly helped her into it and gave the cab driver money to take her to her home.

I don't know if this woman was for real or if she had just conned me. And I was sort of embarrassed that I "fell for the ploy" as I recounted my reason for being super late to dinner. Then one of my colleagues just said that I have to believe that I did the right thing and believe that I helped someone today.

So there you have it - this world has degenerated to the point that we are paranoid to help people and wonder more about possibly being conned than actually helping those around us.

Les "colons" de Québec.

Def'n: colon = 450 = red necks

After spending 5 days in Quebec City hosting a conference for my retailers, I learned that my retailers and colleagues are bonafide rednecks.

Do keep in mind that I have a great affinity for these folks however, i just have to vent.

WTF #1:
The first evening, my colleagues and I had some free time before our retailers arrived so we decided to go out for a good quiet dinner. They were so excited to eat together and for my sake, they decided (while i was checking in) that we would go to a Thai resto because then I could provide tips and suggestions.

WTF #2:
For the first time at a Quebec function, I was not the only Asian female. Two others flew in to the conference. Both are really ugly and the only thing I have in common is our length in hair. One is Filipina and the other is in the Miscellaneous category. One wore elastic-band pants...the other wore white sneakers the whole time. The point of this frank description is to point out exactly how different these women are from me. However, I spent the whole weekend being mistaken for either one of these women. Exasperating because we bare no resemblance to one another.

WTF#3:
I wore a Chloe top to one of the galas. It had a Kimono theme to it and more than one ignoramus came up to me and asked me if i purchased the top in China. RIIIGHHHTT - you mean to say that China and Japan are different?

WTF#4:
After one of the event speakers, Marcel Leboeuf, finished his talk at least 10 people came up to me during the remainder of the day and told me that they were worried that I wasn't able to catch any of the speech cause Marcel speaks really quickly. WTF!?!!? I speak and write French better than most of these clowns.

My vindication was when our VP Exec, the head honcho of our corporation got up to do his usual annual talk. The biggest boss of our company is Chinese Canadian.

BOOYAH!

Cabane à sucre - the real thing.
Went to St Justin this Sat with some friends for some hardcore quebecer-times. no running water, no electricity, just tons of Maple trees and a rickety cabane. authentic good times.

Later that night, went to Pop with PP - the latest wine bar. Had a nice white from France to go with Asparagus and Parmesan & a great red from the Mediteranean to go with my lamb.

Today I went to Ottawa to hang out with gma, Syrae and Auntie Oysan.

All around great weekend.
